It’s official. After a sneak preview at the Bristol HiFi Show last month, today Rega has officially announced Planar 6 RS Edition (Rega Special) turntable. And if it’s anywhere near as good as Planar 3 RS, we can’t wait until ours arrives! Which will be in just a few weeks 😊
Classic styling, serious performance
Looks wise, Planar 6 RS retains the classic Rega rectangular plinth, but adopts many key engineering features from Planar 8.
The 6 RS features an ultra lightweight, high rigidity plinth, constructed using Rega’s unique Tancast 8 foam core and finished with an aluminium metal skin HP laminate and matching edging. This assembly creates a highly ridged ultra-light platform, with reduced resonance, ideal for mounting advanced components like the precision RB880 tonearm (usually found on the Planar 8), which in turn, is factory fitted and expertly aligned with the multi-award winning Nd9 moving magnet cartridge.
Like the standard Planar 6, the RS Edition includes a custom matched Neo MK2 PSU and a hand tuned low noise 24v motor which drives the aluminium sub platter. In addition, this is now driven via an upgraded CNC twin drive pulley and two Rega Reference EBLT drive belts for improved accuracy and speed control. This completes the ultimate Planar 6, at a reduced package price of just £2000, saving over £300 on the individual components.
